new xp partition on laptop with vista pre installed
One more question before I hit the delete button. If I delete the C partition, my XP parition, will my Vista partition suddenly decide that it's the C partition and not the F partition--which I think it ought to be, but won't that mess up some apps or something? Or will C just remain weirdly empty?

Then I add teh linux entry to Vista's boot menu.

You do need it :-) I have 3 GB of RAM on my computer and still keep the 2 GB swap partition I had back when having 1 GB of RAM. Just a hint for the OP - if your Vista OS is *NOT* the 64b version one, you might want to try out Ext2FS - a tool which allows you to mount your ext2/3 partitions under Windows with

I want to instal WinXP 32bit on my Vista Home Premium 64bit system. I installed VPC, start the WinXP install process and when it gets to the "format partition" part of the show, I get kinda nervous, I don't like the word "format", at least when I'm not expecting that word. Is it ok to tell it to format or will it

The Vista install will shutdown XP, and continue to install. Then you'll have a boot menu and can boot to anything you could before. Just be sure not to install over your XP install. Also a NTFS partition is required for Vista. My Vista partition is 8 GB, 10 to 15 would be better. Have your Product Key number ready
